Toast Tremendous Teachers with a Thoughtful Treat

It’s that time of year once again! Back-to-school sales are happening everywhere, and teachers are busy preparing for the start of another school year.

With summer winding down, now is not only the perfect time to show your appreciation to those who have been taking care of your kids during the break, but also a fantastic opportunity to start the school year off right with a gift of flowers for the teachers, facility, coaches, and staff who will be enriching their lives over the next nine months.

To some, it may seem like the summer flew by too fast while others have been counting the days until the new school year begins. Regardless of how you feel about your kids going back to school, we hope your summer was filled with adventure and learning experiences that can’t be taught in schools. If there are any nannies, babysitters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, camp counselors, clergy members or coaches who influenced your summer, flowers are always a perfect way to acknowledge and say thanks for their hard work and dedication.

Most of those people aren’t expecting gifts, so the gesture certainly isn’t necessary, but even a small token of your appreciation is a thoughtful way of showing gratitude that often means more to the recipient than the giver will ever realize.

Forget the apple

It’s 2018 – your teacher doesn’t want an apple unless it’s a phone or computer – so forget the fruit in favor of a beautiful bouquet of brightly-colored flowers instead. Flowers really are the perfect way to set the mood for the start of the school year while brightening up the classroom at the same time.

What a Treat bouquet by Durocher Florist

Teachers aren’t the only ones who enjoy flowers, however, so don’t forget bus drivers, teacher’s aides, facility members, crossing guards, and everyone else who makes the school a fun and inviting place to learn. Flowers are so wonderful at putting smiles on people’s faces, especially when they’re least expected. At Durocher Florist, we specialize in helping you choose the perfect gift for everyone on your list – no matter how big or small of an impact they have on your children’s education.

If you have a friend or family member going away to college for the first time this fall, flowers are a fun and festive way to decorate dorm rooms and live plants are perfect picks if you’re looking for a longer-lasting gift. Most of the plants we carry are easy to care for and don’t require a lot of work, which is ideal for busy students who are always on the go.

Regardless of whether you’re sending flowers to thank someone for a job well done, congratulate someone for a notable accomplishment, wish someone good luck, or simply to make someone’s day, Durocher Florist is here to help with all your back-to-school floral needs. If you don’t know exactly what you want to send, never fear – we’re here to help! Flowers are the international language and florists are the messenger. Did you know? You can count on Durocher Florist, your local florist here in Springfield can send flowers ANYWHERE in the world!

Sending flowers across town? That’s easy. How about, Cat Island, Japan?

A short ferry ride from Japan’s east coast, Tashirojima is a small island boasting a population of around 100 people. That doesn’t sound too unusual until you discover that the humans on the island are outnumbered 8-1 by feral cats!

Originally the cats were encouraged as the island produced silk and mice are a natural predator of silkworms. Local fishermen regarded them as good luck and the island even has a cat shrine, along with newly built cat-shaped cabins for tourists to stay in. It goes without saying that there are no dogs allowed.

Okay, sending flowers there might be a little tricky, but suddenly Martha’s Vineyard doesn’t seem so far away anymore – and we can definitely deliver flowers there!

The bottom line is that the best way to send flowers – whether in town or out of town – is to always think local! Durocher Florist is your connection to the world. Give us a real challenge and bring it on, we’re ready.

Did you know we are much more than just flowers? How about chocolate baskets or a seafood basket? If that’s starting to sound interesting then welcome to our industry, it’s fast, fun and exciting! With our Yes We Can attitude we can make it all happen for you; all you have to do is ask!

Why take chances with some out-of-town company you’ve never heard of when you can rest assured with an unconditional guarantee from a name you trust?

We specialize in beautiful florals imported from around the globe that we create and customize with your personalized message and deliver it wherever you desire. So next time an occasion arises and you want to send flowers or gifts, just give us a call and we’ll be ready to exceed your expectations – even if you want them delivered to Cat Island.

Back to School – A Perfect Time for Flowers!

Back to school. Decorative kids round emblem poster. Flat. Vector illustrationIt’s that time of year once again – summer vacations are winding down and school is back in session (or will be very soon). Whether you’re excited about this time or year or are already missing the hustle and bustle of summer activities, it’s an excellent opportunity to start anew. It’s a special time of year with a clean slate or new memories to be made and new friendships to formed, so why not take the time to celebrate the occasion – and what better way to celebrate than with flowers?

No matter what you role you play in the start of a new school year, there are plenty of opportunities to spread some cheer with some fresh flowers or plants. Here are a few ideas:

Apples are so cliché

Why does nearly every illustration of a classroom depict a big, juicy apple on top of the teacher’s desk? It may be a nice gesture in theory, but in reality, it pales in comparison to a beautiful bouquet of flowers! Even better would be a lovely green plant that would last the entire year.

It takes a village

Most people immediately think of teachers when they think of school, but it takes a finely tuned machine comprised of dozens (or even hundreds) of people to make a school run smoothly. From bus drivers to librarians and administrators to custodians – and everyone in between; there are many behind-the-scenes areas where people spend their time. Why not make these spaces special with some pretty petals?

Empty nest? Fill it with flowers

With kids back at school, the house is probably a lot quieter this time of year – which makes this an excellent reason to treat mom and dad to some beautiful flowers. They’ll appreciate the gesture and it’s a nice way of saying thanks for all their time spent on summer activities. Conversely, if you have older students leaving home for school, what better way to warm up their dorm or apartment with beautiful flowers and plants?

Whatever the reason, flowers are the perfect way to make someone’s day a little brighter. Durocher Florist can help you find the perfect gift for any occasion, whether it’s school-related, a birthday or anniversary, or just something out of the blue. Give us a call today – we’ll take care of the rest.

“Pumpkin Spice” up your Autumn

iheartpumpkinIt all started with a simple beverage. Starbucks opened the floodgates in 2003 when they introduced their infamous pumpkin spice latte, now autumn will never be the same again.

Beginning sometime in August and continuing until the last of the New Year’s Eve partygoers calls it a night, we’re invaded annually by the taste bud-tingling delights and sweet fall aromas of ginger and nutmeg. The epidemic continues to grow larger and stronger with no slowdown in sight. Last year alone, 37% of American consumers reported purchasing a pumpkin-flavored product, accounting for $361 million in sales – an increase of nearly 80% from 2011.

Consumers won’t have to look far to satisfy their pumpkin spice fix this season either as the list of products containing the creamy orange obsession expands like a virus. If pumpkin spice coffee isn’t for you, never fear – you have a few other options. In fact, your entire day can now be filled with all things pumpkin spice.

pumpkinsucYou can start your day with some pumpkin spice English muffins…or bagels…or waffles, topped with some pumpkin spice Country Crock spread. After washing that down with some pumpkin spice milk and popping in a piece of pumpkin spice chewing gum, you’re ready to face the rest of the pumpkin spice world – but not before giving your dog some pumpkin spiced dog treats!

Lunch could include some pumpkin spice hummus along with some pumpkin spice Pringles on the side. Your afternoon snack options are nearly endless; Twinkies, Oreos, M&Ms – take your pick – you’ll find pumpkin spice flavor options for all of them.

What’s for dinner? How about some organic pumpkin spice chicken sausage? Yes, it really exists! If pasta is more your style, pumpkin spice noodles are available as well as gluten free pumpkin pasta sauce.

Festival Of Flowers at The D’Amour Museum

Did you attend the 3rd Annual Festival of Flowers event this past weekend? Our very own, Heather Sullivan AIFD, CFD  was among nearly 50 regional florists who created special floral designs for the event.

“I love being a part of this event. It is always a challenge to come up with something new and exciting and I love to see what others in my industry create as well. Plus, floral dress 2015 durocherwith my busy schedule at the shop, it is always fun to visit the local museums to check out what they are currently featuring.” – Heather Sullivan

The festival kicked off on April 9th with the “Culture & Cocktails,” event where models displayed wearable pieces made of flowers created just for the show. Sullivan created an ensemble that included a skirt, belt, necklace and bouquet which featured boronia, wax flowers, cymbidium orchids and tropical leaves.

During the 3 day event, florists and garden club members were assigned a painting or sculpture in the museum and were commissioned to translate what they saw into a flower arrangement. For this portion of the event, Sullivan had to interpret a painting by Alexander Keirincx. It is believed to be painted in 1643 and is a 17th century Flemish. The painting is located in the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts at the Springfield Museums.
